Main St. Brewing

Main St. Brewing

Main St. Brewing opened its doors in 2014 in a historic heritage building in the heart of Mount Pleasant’s storied Brewery Creek neighbourhood.

Constructed sometime between 1905 and 1913, the building was at the centre of Vancouver’s booming brewing scene and home to the Doering and Marstrand Brewery where a popular brand of local beer called ‘Cascade’ was produced and became Vancouver Breweries’ flagship product. It was also home to the Crescent Motor Co. and Reliance Auto Painting in the roaring ‘20s

Since its first days on the scene, Main St. has been producing offbeat, outside-the-box and award-winning beers like its flagship suite comprising Main St. Pilsner, Kingpin Pale Ale, and a Naked Fox IPA that claimed gold at the 2022 Canada Beer Cup and silver at the 2022 Canadian Brewing Awards.

Its ‘Garage Series’ of barrel-aged and wild-fermented beer launched by current Head Brewer Azlan Graves in 2021 earned a pair of gold medals at the 2022 BC Beer Awards: the Circa 1775 Sumac-Rosewater Saison for Best Specialty Wild Ale and the Gale Force Old Ale for Best Strong Ale and Lager.

Much like the area it calls home, Main St. Brewing embraces tradition while testing boundaries. It offers a tasting room, seasonal patio and retail store and a friendly, seasoned staff that evoke the unique spirit of a neighbourhood where creativity, eclectic characters and pride of place collide and connect in new and exciting ways.

Its home at 261 E. 7th Ave. is a rare example of Mission Revival-style architecture in Vancouver and one of the few surviving industrial heritage buildings in a city where there has been a rapid loss of industrial structures in recent years. The Brewery Creek area is increasingly being recognized for its historical importance and in recent years has been commemorated with interpretive cairns and other efforts to mark the creek and former uses around it.

From day one, Main St. has taken great pride in supporting local, collaborating with the BC craft beer community, and living up to the motto that’s emblazoned on the brick wall of its tasting room: ‘The Main Thing is the Beer’.

On Main St., everyone is welcome, and everyone is embraced. Bend an elbow, lend an ear, and raise a glass to good times and great beer.
